A Haitian scholarship recipient took part in the 2026 study tour of the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP), organized in Ottawa by Global Affairs Canada.
A Haitian student has been distinguished as part of the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) following participation in the 2026 study tour held in Ottawa by Global Affairs Canada. The information was highlighted by the Canadian diplomatic mission in Haiti, which praised the young scholar’s involvement in this international academic initiative.
The program took place from February 16 to 20, 2026, in Canada’s capital and brought together 30 scholars from 21 countries. Its objective is to help participants better understand Canadian institutions, the country’s history, its innovation ecosystem, and its approach to sustainable development.
During the study visit, participants carried out several institutional tours, including visits to the House of Commons of Canada, the Canadian Museum of History, and the CanmetENERGY research center. They also engaged in discussions with Canadian experts from government, academia, and the research sector.
These exchanges enabled the scholars to gain deeper insight into Canadian public policies and the country’s international cooperation mechanisms. The program also included a networking reception, where participants met with several ambassadors and high commissioners.
According to organizers, this type of initiative aims to foster exchanges among young leaders across the Americas and encourage international academic collaboration.
In a social media post, the Canadian mission in Haiti congratulated the Haitian scholar for his participation and emphasized that the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program supports students each year, strengthening academic ties, regional cooperation, and the development of a new generation of leaders.
