In a context of growing security tensions, the Haitian Armed Forces have taken a new step in their defense posture.
In an official memorandum issued on April 2, 2026, from the General Headquarters in Port-au-Prince, the institution announced the transition to “Condition D,” the highest level of alert across the national territory.
This measure, which will take effect on Monday, April 6, 2026, aims to prepare troops for operations considered imminent.
The high command is requiring a full mobilization of all units in order to reach maximum operational capacity. Among the immediate measures is a general recall of troops starting at 8 a.m., with a required attendance rate of 100%. All leave, vacations, and exemptions are suspended until further notice.
The wearing of full uniform is also mandatory for any movement within military installations.
The memorandum also provides for strengthened base security, including tighter access control and strict management of operational reports.
Unit commanders have 24 hours to submit a detailed report of logistical needs to ensure a minimum of 30 days of autonomy.
On an individual level, each soldier must check the proper condition of their weapons and protective equipment, while continuous radio and telephone monitoring is required for officers on duty.
The high command warned against any negligence, stating that discipline will be strictly enforced. Any violation will be sanctioned in accordance with the military justice code.
This increase in alert comes amid a deteriorating security situation, suggesting a likely intensification of operations in the coming days.
