Two men were killed and one person is reported missing following an attack attributed to the “Viv ansanm” coalition in Malong, occurring just days after reassuring announcements from the PNH regarding the situation in the commune. Two men were killed and burned during an armed attack on Friday, May 1, 2026, in Malong, a locality in the Soursailles communal section of Kenscoff.
According to available information, armed individuals identified as members of the “Viv ansanm” coalition attacked the area, killing Cheristin and Josué Fortuné before setting fire to a house with their bodies inside. The assailants also kidnapped three people, two of whom managed to escape. This attack comes shortly after the Haitian National Police (PNH) claimed that life was returning to normal in Kenscoff due to a “flawless” security device supported by specialized units and the Haitian Armed Forces.
However, Kenscoff Mayor Massillon Jean stated that no significant progress has been recorded in nearly three months. “Since February 7, the bandits have not conquered new territories, but they continue to occupy those they already controlled,” he said. The mayor emphasized that while the city center remains relatively calm, several communal sections such as Nouvelle-Touraine, Bongard, and Platon Fusillé remain under the grip of armed groups who steal livestock and destroy the livelihoods of local farmers.
