After many years located on Rue Magloire Ambroise in Champ de Mars, the Faculty of Ethnology (FE) of the State University of Haiti (UEH) has found refuge at #2 Dalencourt Street in Bourdon. Forced out in 2024 by insecurity, the FE is now housed in what was once a residential home. In this new two-story building, students and staff are working together to ensure the continuity of the learning process despite the tighter quarters.

Dean Claude Mane Das explained that the relocation follows a three-year lease managed by the university rectorate. Due to limited space, a hybrid teaching model has been adopted: essential courses are held in person, while others are conducted online. To support this, students have been provided with 30GB data SIM cards and 350 digital tablets on loan. Full-time professors have also received Starlink kits to facilitate remote teaching. The facility is equipped with a 20kW generator and solar panels to guarantee energy autonomy.

Beyond administrative functions, the FE remains a pillar for the community by hosting the UEH mental health clinic on-site. Academically, the faculty is reinforcing its undergraduate and master’s programs in sociology, psychology, and anthropology, while supporting research through various specialized laboratories. Celebrating its 85th anniversary this year with a budget of 61 million gourdes, the Faculty of Ethnology continues to welcome new students, proving its resilience in the face of the national crisis.
