An incident involving an aircraft from IBC Airways occurred on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Antoine-Simon International Airport in Les Cayes.

According to gathered information, the aircraft, while in the landing phase, veered off the runway before hitting and damaging part of the airport’s perimeter fence. “The runway was slippery due to the rain that had been falling over the city for several hours,” a source told Le Nouvelliste.

The plane, coming from Miami, was carrying passengers, and none were injured, the same source added. Part of the aircraft is currently outside the airport perimeter, on the adjacent road. For its part, a representative of IBC Airways stated that “the company is currently conducting the necessary assessments before making any official statement regarding the incident.”

In a press release published early in the evening, the Office National de l’Aviation Civile (OFNAC) provided further details about the incident involving an Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft operated by IBC Airways and registered as N271BC.

“Coming from Miami, the aircraft, which was scheduled to land on runway 08 at 18:35 UTC (14:35 local time), performed a first go-around at 18:36 UTC. During a second landing attempt, at 18:40 UTC (14:40 local time), the aircraft experienced a runway excursion, coming to a stop on the northeast shoulder,” the statement reads, noting that the aircraft was carrying five passengers along with crew members.

According to the Office National de l’Aviation Civile, no fatalities or injuries were reported. “This incident caused a temporary disruption of traffic on the national road adjacent to the airport. The following measures were immediately taken:

  • The Haitian National Police (PNH) was mobilized to secure the area;
  • Technical teams from the Office National de l’Aviation Civile and the Autorité Aéroportuaire Nationale (AAN) will be deployed starting tomorrow, in coordination with a team from IBC Airways, to conduct a technical assessment of the incident;
  • Appropriate measures will be implemented to ensure the safe and orderly resumption of airport operations.

An investigation will be carried out in accordance with national procedures and international civil aviation safety standards in order to determine the exact causes of the incident,” the statement concludes.
