Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Iran is engaged in negotiations with United States over a potential peace agreement—an assertion denied by Tehran.

According to Trump, Iranian officials involved in the alleged talks are reluctant to publicly acknowledge them due to internal threats. “They are negotiating, they really want to make a deal. But they’re afraid to say it, because they think they’ll be killed by their own,” he said while addressing Republican lawmakers in Congress.

Iranian authorities have rejected these claims, maintaining that no such negotiations are taking place.
