Remittances from the diaspora reached $1.2 billion, an increase of more than 10% during the first quarter of the 2025–2026 fiscal year, according to the monetary policy note from the Banque de la République d’Haïti for that period.
Sustained growth in remittances received from abroad (US$1,245.86 million; +10.53%), combined with foreign exchange market regulations implemented by the central bank, helped increase the supply of dollars in the economy. This resulted in a slight appreciation of the Haitian gourde against the US dollar by the end of the quarter, confirming the relative stability of the currency observed over the past two years. As of December 31, 2025, the reference exchange rate calculated by the central bank decreased by 0.05% compared to the previous quarter, standing at 130.6244 gourdes per US dollar.
