A study based on IHSI data reveals a significant downturn across several sectors between 2022 and 2025.

The electricity and water sector has experienced the steepest decline in Haiti in recent years, according to a study based on data from the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI).

According to this analysis conducted by Briefcase PR, the sector recorded an annualized decrease of 8.8% between the fourth quarter of 2022 and the fourth quarter of 2025, marking the sharpest drop among the sectors studied.

Other key sectors of the economy are also showing declining performance. Restaurants and hotels rank second with a drop of 8.0%, followed by construction at 7.7%. Trade and mining and quarrying complete the group of the most affected sectors, with respective decreases of 7.6% and 7.5%.

In contrast, the transport and communications sector shows the most moderate decline, with an estimated annualized decrease of 1.4%. Overall, the study highlights a generalized slowdown in economic activity in Haiti over the analyzed period. The average decline across the sectors studied stands at 6.5%, reflecting persistent pressure on multiple segments of the national economy.

These figures are based on the Economic Activity Indicator (ICAE), which measures sectoral performance. The analysis focuses only on sectors that recorded negative variation over the period.
