To prevent the return of criminal groups to areas recently retaken by the National Police, 200 soldiers from the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H) have been deployed to reinforce the presence of law enforcement in these neighborhoods. This deployment aims to stabilize the sectors and ensure long-term security.
According to a source at the Ministry of Defense, additional soldiers are expected to be mobilized on the ground alongside the National Police. The FAd’H are also awaiting the delivery of previously ordered equipment to increase their effectiveness in combating armed groups. Since April 6, the Armed Forces have moved from “Condition D” to “Condition C,” meaning they are now directly involved in police operations. Currently, military personnel are consolidating several sites recovered by the National Police, such as the Superior Court of Auditors and the Faculty of Human Sciences.
At present, 200 soldiers are working with the police, while another 200 are awaiting special training before their deployment. The Armed Forces aim to establish a unit of approximately 1,000 soldiers for anti-gang operations, pending the arrival of armored vehicles. Furthermore, a new cohort of 700 young recruits will soon begin training at the Vertières and Anacaona bases to strengthen the army’s ranks. Additionally, about thirty other soldiers are working with the Task Force, another structure dedicated to the fight against criminal groups.
