3,200 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $3.8 million USD were seized by the U.S. Coast Guard aboard a vessel, approximately eight nautical miles off Môle-Saint-Nicolas, Haiti, last Thursday. This was announced in a press release published on the official U.S. Coast Guard website (news.uscg.mil) on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. One individual was taken into custody. On Sunday, the illicit cargo and the suspect were turned over to Haitian authorities for further legal proceedings, the statement continued, noting that the Coast Guard personnel acted with the authorization of the Haitian government.
“In close coordination with the Haitian government, the U.S. Coast Guard remains resolute in our shared mission to secure the maritime approaches to the Caribbean,” stated Lieutenant Commander Cory Arsenault, Coast Guard Liaison Officer for Haiti. “Together, we are strengthening joint operations aimed at disrupting the illegal flow of narcotics, protecting vulnerable communities, and preserving the security and stability of the region.
