The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MAEC) announced with “great sadness” the passing of Ambassador Nicolas Lemithe, which occurred on June 15, 2026, in Port-au-Prince. The ministry noted that Lemithe’s departure represents a significant loss for the nation’s diplomatic corps, where he served for decades as a distinguished senior statesman.
Throughout his professional career, Ambassador Lemithe represented the Republic of Haiti as Chief of Mission to Mexico, Colombia, Italy, and Venezuela, as well as serving as a permanent representative to the United Nations. In its official statement, the ministry saluted his exemplary service and dedication to international relations, extending its heartfelt condolences to his family, former colleagues, and the current personnel across both central administrative offices and overseas foreign services.
