Long lines were observed this Saturday, March 28, 2026, at several gas stations in the commune of Delmas. Some stations were simply closed, the newspaper noted, amid rumors circulating since the beginning of the week about a possible increase in fuel prices at the pump.
In response to the situation, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) issued an official statement to calm public concern. In the note, authorities affirmed that no fuel shortage is currently affecting the national market. “The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) informs the general public that no fuel shortage has been observed on the national market. Petroleum products are available at gas stations and their distribution is ensured through officially authorized channels,” the ministry stated on social media.
Regarding illegal practices, the MCI has taken a firm stance. “Any sale of fuel outside these channels, particularly in containers or any other non-compliant means, is strictly prohibited across the national territory,” the ministry warned. “Any individual or entity involved in the illegal sale of fuel will be subject to immediate coercive measures, including seizure of products, closure of sales points, and legal prosecution in accordance with the laws in force,” the statement added.
The MCI also indicated that competent authorities, including inspection services and law enforcement, have been instructed to strictly enforce these measures without tolerance.
Finally, the ministry called on the population to act responsibly and cooperate with authorities by reporting any illegal activities related to fuel distribution.
