OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin addressed the Permanent Council on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, to outline the organization’s ongoing support for Haiti. Ramdin stated that significant progress has been made through political dialogue and coordination with Haitian stakeholders, CARICOM, and the United Nations to preserve institutional continuity and advance a Haitian-led transition.
The Secretary General detailed five priority areas: political facilitation, electoral preparation, security support, international coordination, and institutional strengthening. Regarding elections, he highlighted the support provided to the Provisional Electoral Council and the PUICA identification project, which ensures citizens can obtain the necessary ID cards to vote. Additionally, the OAS continues to support security efforts by building police capacity and enhancing maritime and port security. The establishment of the OAS Special Mission to Haiti, led by Special Representative Alberto Föhrig, further solidifies the organization’s long-term commitment to democratic governance and sustainable stability for the Haitian people.
