The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) launched a comprehensive vaccination campaign against diphtheria this Monday, targeting schools and healthcare centers across Haiti’s ten geographical departments.
According to Dr. Philippe Noel, the health director for the Ouest department, the drive is scheduled to run from May 25 to May 29, 2026, focusing on children between the ages of 6 and 15 to reinforce their immunity against the disease. To date, public health authorities have recorded 1,398 suspected cases nationwide, with 129 officially confirmed through laboratory testing. The Ouest department alone remains a critical point of concern, accounting for 45 of those confirmed cases and 2 fatalities linked to the illness.
