The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MAEC) assured in a statement that the reopening of airspace for commercial flights between the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic will take place in May 2026. This announcement follows the Dominican Civil Aviation Board’s (JAC) decision to postpone the resumption of air operations, which was originally scheduled for May 1st. According to the Haitian Chancellery, the reopening process is well underway. “The competent Dominican authorities have confirmed that this reopening will occur during the month of May 2026,” the statement reads.
“This schedule is part of the finalization of a security protocol currently being developed by the competent institutions of both countries, aimed at guaranteeing a resumption of flights under optimal conditions. The Haitian Government remains fully mobilized, in close collaboration with Dominican authorities, to ensure a rapid, progressive, and secure resumption of air operations between the two countries, particularly from Cap-Haïtien International Airport,” the text continues. The ministry emphasized that both nations reiterate their commitment to reopening the airspace and strengthening exchanges while maintaining open channels of communication and bilateral dialogue.
