U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau conducted a high-profile official visit to Port-au-Prince on Friday, May 29, 2026. Landau was received at the National Palace by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to hold bilateral talks centered on regional security frameworks and governance stability. Official photographs released by both administrations showed the U.S. official conducting structural assessments at the National Palace and Champ de Mars, as well as observing live-fire tactical drills executed by the newly formed, UN-authorized Gang Suppression Force (GSF) ahead of its full operational deployment.

Taking to social media platform X, the Deputy Secretary noted a remarkable shift in the local security landscape compared to the conditions inherited sixteen months ago. Landau credited the administrations of Donald Trump and Marco Rubio with building an active international security coalition that averted institutional collapse. In response, the Haitian Prime Minister’s office released a press release celebrating the visit as an absolute and exclusive endorsement from Washington, stating that the high-level meeting sends a powerful international signal aligning the White House with Fils-Aimé’s efforts to dismantle criminal networks and guide the nation toward sovereign elections.

The executive meeting at the National Palace also included Foreign Minister Raina Forbin, Planning Minister Sandra Paulémon, Justice Minister Patrick Pelissier, and Defense Minister Mario Andrésol, alongside U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Henry T. Wooster. Following his diplomatic mission in Haiti, the U.S. State Department confirmed that Deputy Secretary Landau is scheduled to travel to the Dominican Republic to meet with President Luis Abinader and private sector leaders to review bilateral trade and regional security integration.
