ZED Airlines to Resume Haiti–Brazil Route Following Campinas Airport Standoff

PORT-AU-PRINCE — After a week of grounded planes and mounting uncertainty, ZED Airlines has officially announced a phased restoration of its flight schedule between Haiti and Brazil. The carrier confirmed Friday that it has reached a provisional agreement with aviation authorities to resume operations starting March 25, 2026.

The suspension, which began mid-March, was triggered by a specific “incident” at Campinas International Airport (Viracopos) in Brazil. While the airline did not disclose the exact nature of the disruption, the halt left hundreds of passengers stranded and highlighted the fragility of the air bridge connecting the two nations.

A Phased Recovery

ZED Airlines’ management stated that the breakthrough came following intense negotiations with international aviation regulators. The recovery will not happen overnight, but rather through a “progressive restart” designed to test operational stability before returning to a full schedule.

The Recovery Timeline:

  • March 16 (Original): Flights suspended following the Campinas incident.

  • March 20: Partial resumption announced after high-level meetings.

  • March 25: First rescheduled flight set to depart, clearing the initial backlog.

Clearing the Backlog

The airline’s priority is accommodating travelers caught in the suspension. The flight originally slated for March 16 has been moved to Wednesday, March 25. Passengers are being urged to check their emails for updated itineraries, as the airline works to finalize a “durable and complete” schedule for the coming weeks.

“Our teams have been mobilized around the clock to ensure we honor our commitments to our passengers while maintaining the highest safety standards,” the airline said in a statement.

Why the Haiti–Brazil Route Matters

For many in Haiti, this flight path is more than just a commercial route; it is a vital link for the diaspora and migrant workers moving between the Caribbean and South America. The temporary closure of this corridor added significant pressure to an already strained regional travel market.

ZED Airlines concluded its announcement by thanking its partners and customers for their “patience and understanding during this exceptional situation,” promising that a finalized, long-term calendar will be released shortly.
