Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé officially launched the “Kat ou la” project on March 24, 2026, during a visit to the Office National d’Identification (ONI) in Haiti.
According to the government, the initiative aims to modernize the country’s national identification system and improve access to official identification for citizens both in Haiti and within the diaspora.
As part of the project, authorities plan to distribute 500,000 identification cards and produce 250,000 additional new cards. The new documents will be manufactured using advanced technologies designed to strengthen the reliability and security of the national identification process.
Officials say the modernization effort will also play an important role in improving the credibility of upcoming elections, while ensuring broader access to a key civil document required for many administrative and civic procedures.
The government emphasized that the project is part of broader efforts to reinforce state institutions and facilitate citizens’ participation in national life.
