The border city of Pedernales has been designated as the host city for the 14th edition of Diaspora Week, organized by the Zile Foundation. The event will begin on April 13, 2026, and run until April 20.
The opening activities will be held in collaboration with the Haitian Consulate in Barahona, the Pedernales City Hall, and the Anse-à-Pitres City Hall. This binational week aims to strengthen economic, social, and community ties between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
According to the organizers, Pedernales was chosen because it represents a border space where coexistence between the two nations is expressed daily through human, commercial, and cultural exchanges.
The region is also undergoing transformation, with Pedernales emerging as a new tourism hub in southern Dominican Republic, supported by hotel infrastructure development and cruise ship arrivals at Cabo Rojo.
The opening day will feature a Dominican-Haitian fraternity luncheon, bringing together local authorities and leaders from both sides of the border.
Former Haitian Prime Minister Jean Henry Céant will serve as the keynote speaker. More than twenty activities are scheduled throughout the week, including economic forums, academic meetings, and cultural, sports, and community initiatives across several cities.
