Homes set on fire and heavy gunfire reported during an armed attack in L’Estère.
An armed attack was reported in the locality of Kapenyen, in the commune of L’Estère, Artibonite department, around 3:00 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026.
According to information gathered from local sources, heavily armed individuals, identified as members of the “Kokorat San Ras” group, reportedly entered the area along with other armed groups.
Heavy gunfire was heard for several hours, causing panic among residents.
Several houses were reportedly set on fire during the attack, worsening the situation in this locality of the Lower Artibonite. No official toll was available at the time of writing. Local sources do not rule out loss of life, though this has not yet been confirmed.
So far, authorities have not issued any statement regarding the incident, while tension remains high in the area.
