Deteriorating roads: MTPTC struggles to keep up with repairs in the capital

Several major roads in the capital remain in deplorable condition, despite ongoing projects launched by the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC).

The MTPTC had initiated minor works while awaiting the launch of larger projects aimed at repairing severely damaged roads. While interventions have begun in some areas, others have yet to see any action.

The Delmas highway is riddled with large potholes that complicate traffic flow and cause congestion in several areas. In Delmas 62, a particularly dangerous hole poses serious risks to drivers, who must exercise extreme caution when crossing this section.

The same situation can be observed along the entire Delmas highway, where potholes are widespread. In Delmas 48, road degradation has reached the point where the surface is turning dusty. If no action is taken, it could completely lose its original condition.

The MTPTC appears largely absent in the commune of Delmas. In fact, repair works carried out in Delmas 71 and 75 were undertaken by the Delmas municipal authorities.

In Tabarre, rehabilitation work on the section linking Carrefour Rita to Clercine has been ongoing for several weeks. This project, covering approximately 900 meters, is funded by the Tabarre municipality, while the MTPTC is only responsible for execution, according to a municipal official.

The section is currently in the concrete-laying phase and is expected to reopen to traffic in about three months. In the meantime, drivers are forced to use alternative routes.

Regarding other deteriorated roads in the commune, the same source indicated that the MTPTC is expected to intervene soon on the axis linking Gérald to Carrefour Rita. This stretch is in particularly alarming condition, with damaged pavement, piles of garbage, and stagnant water making circulation difficult for both drivers and pedestrians.

A few months ago, the MTPTC rehabilitated the Gérald Bataille intersection. While the road leading to Maïs Gaté has been renovated, the one toward Carrefour Fleuriot remains in critical condition and continues to deteriorate, with the surface gradually breaking down and becoming increasingly dusty.

The poor condition of several roads is seriously affecting user safety. Authorities from the MTPTC must accelerate their interventions to improve mobility for citizens.
