The Ambassador of Colombia to Haiti, Vilma Rocío Velásquez Uribe, hosted a reception on Thursday, May 7, 2026, to mark the conclusion of a mission by two representatives from the Colombian Agency for Reincorporation and Normalization (ARN). Alejandra Miller, Director of the ARN, and her colleague Tania Esperanza Rodríguez Triana, ended their four-day exploratory stay, which included meetings with Haiti’s National Commission for Disarmament, Dismantlement, and Reintegration (CNDDR), government officials, and UN agencies.
Ambassador Velásquez framed this technical assistance as an “act of memory,” recalling Alexandre Pétion’s historical support for Simón Bolívar. She explained that the mission’s goal was to listen to and understand the priorities set by Haitian authorities to identify cooperation paths tailored to the national context. These exchanges provided an opportunity to share Colombia’s extensive experience in peacebuilding, community support, and territorial development.
Alejandra Miller noted that “force alone is not enough to achieve a peace process,” emphasizing the importance of addressing the underlying inequalities that fuel violence. Future discussions, facilitated by the Colombian embassy, will focus on developing technical tools and methodologies to support Haiti’s disarmament and reintegration efforts.
