Yonel Louis, a photojournalist and long-time contributor to Le Nouvelliste and Ticket Magazine, passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 67. Those who frequented the Sylvio Cator Stadium and sports venues hosting the national championship likely recognized the face of this photographer who captured the great emotions of football in Haiti.

The Haitian Association of Sports Press (ASHAPS) announced, in an official statement signed by its Secretary General Kenson Désir, the death of photojournalist Yonel Louis on March 31, 2026. His passing has sparked deep emotion within the country’s journalistic and sports communities.

In this solemn message, ASHAPS highlighted Yonel Louis’s major contribution to the development and promotion of Haitian sports through imagery. For decades, the photographer captured, with sensitivity, the defining moments of local and international competitions. His work, widely praised, stood out for its consistent quality and unique perspective, capable of conveying the emotional intensity of sport. Before establishing himself in the sports field, Yonel Louis began his career in political photography, a domain he gradually left to fully dedicate himself to sports. This professional shift proved decisive, as it enriched sports media coverage in Haiti. At Le Nouvelliste, he documented numerous major events, helping to increase the visibility of Haitian athletes.

Present on the ground, particularly at Sylvio Cator Stadium and during various competitions across the country, Yonel Louis became a privileged witness to the evolution of national sports. His dedication, discretion, and professionalism earned him the respect of his peers.

In this message of sympathy, ASHAPS extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, his loved ones, and the entire journalistic community. The organization spoke of the loss of a key figure whose legacy will remain deeply rooted in the history of Haitian sports journalism.

With the passing of Yonel Louis, a visual memory of Haitian sports fades away, leaving behind a valuable body of work and an indelible mark.
