Scheduled for May 1, 2026, the resumption of aerial operations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic has been postponed. Dominican authorities cite the need to finalize a security protocol before any reopening. The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) of the Dominican Republic announced, in a statement dated May 1, 2026, the delay of the air link restoration initially planned for that day.
According to the document, this decision comes as authorities are still working on a security framework required before flights can resume. “The Civil Aviation Board, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions (…) are working on the development of a security protocol,” the statement reads. Resolution No. 92-2026, adopted on April 22, had previously planned the re-establishment of passenger and cargo flights between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, specifically targeting connections with Cap-Haïtien International Airport.
However, Dominican authorities are now conditioning this resumption on the implementation of guarantees deemed essential. “This security protocol aims to establish necessary measures in sanitary, phytosanitary, and migratory fields (…) and constitutes an indispensable document for the safe and orderly development of air operations between the two nations,” the text specifies. In the absence of this framework, the resumption of flights is suspended indefinitely, with no new date announced yet.
