During his visit to Washington this week, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé was received on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Both leaders made a brief appearance before the press before holding a closed-door meeting. According to a statement from State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigot, Rubio reaffirmed U.S. support for Haiti’s stability and security.
The Secretary also praised progress in the deployment of the Gang Repression Force and emphasized the need for swift implementation of its mandate. He commended the Prime Minister’s leadership as security forces expand their presence and coordination.
Rubio stressed that security improvements are essential for moving toward elections and reaffirmed support for a multi-year reauthorization of the HOPE/HELP programs to support stabilization efforts.
The Prime Minister’s visit, scheduled from April 19 to 24, includes meetings in Washington and New York as part of efforts to strengthen strategic dialogue between Haiti and its international partners in support of stability, security, and national development.
