The Ministry on the Status of Women and Women’s Rights (MCFDF) officially launched four women’s shelters on Friday, May 22, 2026, across the departments of Ouest, Grand’Anse, Artibonite, and Centre. The opening ceremony took place in Vivy Mitchell, within the commune of Pétion-Ville, with Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and the Minister on the Status of Women, Pedrica Saint Jean, in attendance.
According to the MCFDF, this initiative aims to reinforce protection mechanisms and provide comprehensive support for women and girls who are survivors of violence. The establishment of these safe spaces arrives as a critical state response to address the heightened risks and vulnerabilities faced by women within the ongoing humanitarian crisis and climate of insecurity currently gripping the nation.
