The government presented two checks of 264 million gourdes each to the Normalization Committee of the Haitian Football Federation during a ceremony held at the Villa d’Accueil on Wednesday, April 8.

Gathered at the Villa d’Accueil, in the presence of the Minister of Sports, Pythagore Dumas, the president of the Normalization Committee of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF), Monique André, and several state officials, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé officially handed over two checks totaling 528 million gourdes to support the national team.

According to the Prime Minister, these funds are allocated as qualification bonuses and preparation expenses for Haiti’s national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In his speech, the head of government stated that he carried out this act with great “emotion,” as well as a deep sense of pride and responsibility.

“Beyond the money, this gesture is a way to strengthen faith in the hearts of the Grenadiers and confidence among the youth. It represents the State’s commitment to supporting the national team,” said Mr. Fils-Aimé, once again congratulating the team for their qualification.

Addressing the Grenadiers, the Prime Minister delivered a strong message: “You are more than a team. You represent the breath that keeps the heart of the nation beating. You are the symbol of courage, determination, and resilience of an entire people,” he stated, encouraging them to make the country proud during their participation in the world’s biggest football event.

The head of government also reaffirmed his commitment to install giant screens in major cities, as well as televisions in all municipalities and communal sections, allowing all Haitians to follow the national team’s matches during the World Cup.

The president of the FHF Normalization Committee, Monique André, expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister for this gesture. “This support is not only financial. Above all, it is a message of trust, support, and hope. It is the symbol of a people recognizing its children, of a country that still believes in itself,” she said, noting that this support comes at a crucial time.

The ceremony was attended by Joseph-Mario Léandre, a member of the national team that played in the 1974 World Cup, as well as Olivier Woodensky Pierre, the only Grenadier playing in Haiti who will participate in the World Cup alongside the national team.

It should be recalled that Haiti’s national team qualified for the 2026 World Cup after winning their final qualifying match against Nicaragua on November 18, 2025, with a 2–0 scoreline. This victory secured the Grenadiers’ place in the world’s biggest football tournament after more than 52 years of absence.
