Following the meeting with the Pope, the head of government held talks at the Secretariat of State with Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. According to the Holy See Press Office, the Prime Minister was accompanied by his wife and a delegation of high-ranking officials.
The meetings focused on the “good relations between the Holy See and Haiti,” with both parties highlighting the Church’s essential role in addressing the multidimensional crisis currently facing the country. A communiqué from the Holy See’s Press Office noted that the discussions covered critical topics in Haitian current affairs, including the sociopolitical situation and significant challenges regarding humanitarian aid, migration, and national security. The talks also emphasized the “necessary contribution of the International Community” in supporting Haiti through its current struggles.
As a conclusion to the official visit on Saturday afternoon, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé will attend a special Mass for Peace in Haiti, to be celebrated by Cardinal Parolin at 4:00 PM in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major. A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office expressed his “gratitude for the fraternal attention shown to Haiti” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening historical ties with the Holy See through a spirit of dialogue, peace, and hope for the nation.
